Second Trimester! Weeks 14-17

October 14 to November 11, 2007

It was hard to believe that the first trimester went by so quickly. I am sure it was partly due to the fact that I have really felt pretty good (thus far!) throughout the whole pregnancy. If I had been nauseous or puking during the first trimester, I'm sure I'd be touting a different story. Usually this would be the time when the sickness would start to subside and hopefully the tiredness goes away. For me, these three weeks weren't much different from the previous ones, other than the fact that I was really noticing a difference in my waist line. No one else could notice, but I could certainly tell, and my pants could tell, too! Nothing like the good feeling of putting on your "fat day" pants only to find that you can't even come close to zipping them let alone buttoning them. So I invested in a belly band. it is essentially a large piece of elastic that stretches around your waste over your pants so you can try and wear your pre pregnancy pants as long as possible. I thought it was working great, until I put on my first pair of maternity pants. Holy cow, so much more comfortable! I kept putting off buying any maternity clothes because I didn't think I needed them yet, but man was I wrong. It felt so much better to wear pants with a big elastic waist, as ugly as they are, than to try and fit into my old pants with rubberband contraptions around the buttons and the belly band. So that was the highlite of the first 3 weeks of my second trimester, discovering the comfort of maternity pants. I hate the tops, they are big tents, but the pants so far have been great. I'm sure come March I will be sick of these lard ass pants and be ready for my old clothes again, but for now, I will succomb to the comfortable world or elastic waists. So much for fashion over function!

By week 17, my belly was really starting to pop out more. Of course to other people, I was not obviously pregnant yet, just looking like I ate too much Mexican food or drank too much beer, but it was becoming more obvious to me. I had been anxiously awaiting for the day my baby bump would arrive. I'm sure I will be eating my words when I'm 30 pounds heavier and so big I can't see my feet. But I'm enjoying it for now anyway!
