Julia is born!

Julia Charlotte Eynon Arrives April 13, 2008!

One of these days I will take the time and write my labor and delivery "story," but for now, I'll hit the high points...

On Saturday morning (April 12th), my water broke and we arrived at the hospital at about 10:30. I was not having any major contractions at the time, so I was allowed to walk around for a few hour, off and on, to try and get things progressing. My goal has always been to do things with as little medication/intervention as possible, so I was hoping that the walking would get the ball rolling. Unfortunately, by 4:30 in the afternoon, although I was having some mild contractions, I had not progressed and was still only 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. So my doctor decided to start pitocin at a low level to get contractions started and to get my labor progressing. There is a lot of detail betwen here and the birth, but the short story is that after about 7 hours of active labor and only 20 minutes or so of pushing (and no epidural!), we welcomed little Julia Charlotte at 2:07 a.m. She is perfectly healthy and weighed in at a petite 6 pounds 5 ounces and was 18 1/2 inches long. The whole experience was amazing, and it is wonderful having our little girl finally here with us.

Me posing with my exercise ball. I actually used this during labor; although, I don't think I was smiling this big then!
