Julia's 1/2 Birthday!
October 13, 2008
I suppose I should write about what Julia is doing in her sixth month considering she'll be 7 months already next week! I know I've said it before, but it is so fun watching her grow and change as she gets older. It seems like she learns new skills overnight and that she is a little bit different every day. Julia continues to be the happiest and most laid back baby I know. She is content in just about any situation, and everywhere we go, people tell us what a lovely baby she is. I couldn't agree more!
Julia's sixth month has brought new adventures in eating, grabbing and exploring, and her first signs of mobility. Her giggles and facial expressions are the cutest things you've ever seen and they crack me up. At Julia's 6 moth doctor's appointment, she weighed 14 pounds 10 ounces (25-50th percentile) and was 25 1/2 inches long (50th percentile), she's probably close to 16 pounds by now. She is just starting to fit into her 6-12 month clothes. I love when she moves into the next size, she has a whole new wardrobe to wear!
This month we started to introduce some new solid foods, other than rice cereal or oatmeal. Thus far, she has eaten avocado, sweet potatoes, and bananas. I have made all of her baby food so far, and hope to continue to do so. It's been pretty easy, I've just mashed or pureed the foods with a little breast milk or formula. I made a big batch of sweet potatoes and froze them in ice cube trays. Julia eats 3 cubes with some oatmeal or rice cereal for dinner. I think green beans, peas, and applesauce are next on her menu. I absolutely love feeding her "real" foods and watching her expressions when she tries something new. I love it when she tries to feed herself, too. We were not prepared, however, for the change in her poop that came with the changes in her diet. Holy cow, she has stinky (I mean, really stinky!), big people poop now!
The day of Julia's school pictures, it was one of our beautiful, warm days in October.

Julia kept grabbing the mums and trying to eat them.

Julia talking about her day at school. (This is downloaded from our new Flip Video - Love it!)
|
Julia's first food besides rice cereal or oatmeal...avocado! Baby guacamole - avocado mashed with breast milk, yum!
|
Her first bite, not quite sure what to think.
|
I think she liked it!
|
Julia still loves grabbing her feet any chance she gets, she loves sucking on her toes.
|
Julia loves Biscuit (and vice versa, we cought him sleeping in her room one night!) She just stares at him walking around the room and cracks up any time he gets near her.

Julia working on sitting up. A couple of weeks ago, she could sit for a few seconds, and then do the forward or side lean and eventually fall over. She's getting much better now, she can sit for a couple of minutes at a time.
|
Julia's favorite thing to do right now, grabbing faces, necks, hair, jewelry, and anything else she can get her hands on.
|
Julia's second food... sweet potatoes, she LOVES them. She was practicing feeding herself!

Julia finds as much joy in eating as I do! |
