38 Weeks Pregnant - March 31-April 6, 2008

My 38th week of pregnancy started out awful, I had not slept in 2 nights, and I was cranky and at my wit's end! Monday was one of the worst days at work I had had in a long time. After not sleeping more than 3 hours total for the previous Saturday and Sunday nights, the last thing I wanted to do was get up and get ready to go into work. I also had my 38 week doctor's appointment that day, we saw a different doc since my OB was out of town for spring break. I explained to her my sleeping situation. It wasn't that I was uncomfortable, nor did I have a hard time falling asleep, but once I woke up, I could not fall back to sleep. I would just lay there thinking about everything under the sun. I heard every little noise and the smallest snore or peep out of Jon drove me crazy. How could he be sleeping so well while I am just laying here wide awake?! Anyway, she recommended that I try taking some Benadryl or Ambien to help me sleep. I don't know that this was the best solution, since it was usually about 2 a.m. that I would wake up and not be able to sleep. I think if I took an Ambien then, I would never wake up! I am not quite sure what happened, but ever since that conversation at the doctor's office, I have had no trouble sleeping. That Monday night I chose not to take anything, I'd give myself one more night to try and sleep on my own. Somehow I had the best night's sleep that I have had in a really long time that night, and woke up a new person on Tuesday! It is amazing what a full night's sleep can do to your mood and attitude! Now I know once Julia is here, we will be getting very little sleep, and this was probably just nature's way of preparing us. I'm sorry, I prefer to get as much sleep as possible before she arrives! Plus, during the first weeks after Julia is born, when I'm sure it will be the worst, I will not have to worry about getting up and looking nice to go to work. I'll be able to stay in my comfy clothes, nap during the day, and not have to worry about going out if I don't want to! Anyway, I have slept great since last weekend and have not had any crazy, cranky days at work. Hopefully this will keep up unitl Julia arrives!

The rest of the doctor's appointment went well. BP continues to be good and I gained another pound and a half, putting my total weight gain at about 28 pounds. Still under 30!! The doctor checked me again, still not dilated, but she said I was getting "good and soft and thinned out." (Sorry if this is TMI!)

So the rest of my 38th week went very well once I started getting some sleep again. During my crazy day at work that Monday, I came close to deciding I can't work anymore if this is how it was going to be. So I decided that, at the very least, I am going to take 1 day off per week and only work 4 days per week from here on out. This was great, I took Wednesday off and ran some errands to buy some of the last things we still needed. I think I have been to Target and Babies R Us more in the past 3 months than most people go in a lifetime!. I also made some finishing touches on Julia's nursery and just relaxed! Then over the weekend, Jon and I were very productive around the house...nesting maybe?? We cleaned out the garage, I finished all of the laundry (even the guest bedroom sheets are clean and ready for visitors!), put batteries in every baby gadget that needs them, and finally installed the car seat. By Sunday night, I finally felt like we were absolutely ready for Julia to come home.

Here are some pictures of the nursery, mostly finished. I'm sure we will add some pictures of Julia once she is born.

Hanging on the door

I was in a creative, crafty mood and put together some flower and bug pictures for the birdhouse frames. It is hard to see, but the center of the green frame has her name.

The beautiful picture Jon's friend, Christina, made for us. It's hard to see in the picture, but it says, "Plant seeds and singe songs."
