30 weeks... February 4-February 10, 2008
The big accomplishment for this week was getting the crib together. Putting the crib together itself was actually not very difficult. The hardest part was getting it out of the enormous box! The assembly was much easier than we thought it would be, it took less than an hour. Julia's room is so small that the big challenge is going to be fitting all of the furniture and baby gear into the room. We haven't put the changing table together yet, and we're not quite sure where it's going to go. We are going to have to do some creative rearranging to fit everything into her room! Here's what Julia's room currently looks like, we're slowly making progress!

Addendum to 30 Weeks:
Okay, so I spoke way too soon when I said my 30th week was pretty much uneventful. Last Friday (Feb 8th), on my way to work, I was in a car accident, and before I say anything else, I'm okay and Julia's okay! It was about 8:15 in the morning, and I was literally about 30 seconds from parking my car, when this guy in a big pickup truck hit the back of my car. Now just to give you a picture of what happened, I was in the far left hand lane of a 4-lane one-way street, and truck guy was in the lane next to me, to my right. He, at the last minute, decided he wanted to make a left-hand turn from 2 lanes over. Unfortunately, he somehow did not see my car, and hit the back right of my car as he attempted to make his left turn. I'm not quite sure why he thought turning left from a middle lane was a good idea, but he did. He claimed he was from Texas and just moved here, so he didn't know where he was going. That's a nice excuse and all, but I don't think you make left hand turns from middle lanes in Texas, either! Okay, I digress. Anyway, so he hit the back of my car, which made the left side of my car hit the curb. This is where the most damage to my car was done, this caused my entire back, left wheel to be sideways, literally parallel with the ground. So needless to say, my car was not driveable, and was stuck in the middle of Michigan Street. Yes, I caused a backup, and even made the morning accident traffic report!
It's easy for me to joke about it now, because I am okay, and more importantly, Julia is safe and healthy. At the time, I was absolutely freaking out. I got out of the car and had no clue what to do. I called Jon first, luckily he was still at home, and was able to come right over in about 10 minutes. After that, I was just standing there, for what seemed like an eternity, but was probably only 1 minute, not having any clue who to call or what to do (and freaking out in my head!) Luckily, a campus police car pulled up without even having to call. The officer was great, she made sure everyone was okay (especially when she found out I was pregnant!), got all of the info for the police report, and even arranged for my car to be towed. It was clearly the other guy's fault, so at least there was no disagreeing or confusion for the police report.
I then headed into work, thinking I'd make a few phone calls to report the accident and coordinate the repairs of my car, and then get on with the rest of my day. After all, I was supposed to be leaving early to drive to Toledo for my baby shower the next day. After the phone calls to my insurance company and the Subaru dealer, I called my doctor just to inform him I'd been in an accident. I was sure I was fine, and thought he would tell me to call him if I showed any signs of trouble. Well, I was wrong. He wanted me to go to the hospital just to be absolutely certain that Julia and I were not hurt or that I was not going into premature labor. My friends and coworkers, Nicole and Jen, generously drove me up to Womens' and sat with me for 4 hours while they monitored Julia's heart rate and me for contractions. Physically, everything was fine, mentally I was pretty much a mess most of the day. As much as it sucked sitting in the hospital all afternoon (especially when I had a million other things to do!), I was so thankful and hugely relieved that Julia and I were unaffected from the stress of the day. A huge thanks to Nicole and Jen who sat with me in the small triage room all afternoon, watching really bad HGTV shows from the 1980's trying to pass the time.
I was able to pick up my rental car that afternoon at about 4. I headed home to try and figure out what I was going to do about the weekend. I really wanted to just lay on the couch, take a nap, and just unwind from the crazy day. This would mean, though, that I would have to get up at the crack of dawn on Saturday to drive to Toledo for the shower. Jon couldn't come home with me this weekend, he had to work in Indy on a project with some out-of-towners that had been planned for months. There was no way he could reschedule, or not do the work. This was a big paying project! So this meant I either drove myself to Ohio or I wasn't going. Well, I somehow found some energy, rallied, and packed my bags for the weekend. I ended up leaving Friday at about 5:30 and made it to Toledo by 9:30. I was exhausted when I arrived, but it was so nice once I got there to sleep in a comfy bed and sleep in the next day. The rest of the weekend was great, I never had any soreness or after effects from the accident, and had a wonderful shower with my family and friends!
